Arsenal F.C.

The club was created by members of the Royal Arsenal. The first name of the club was 'Dial Square', one of the first teams featured a couple of Nottingham Forest players. They wrote to their former club and managed to borrow a set of red shirts. The club changed name a few more times, from 'Woolwich Reds' and 'Woolwich Arsenal'.

The first time they won the double was in in 1970-71, and remained defeated at home for the complete season. The most famous and successful managers have been Herbert Chapman and the current manager Arsene Wenger. After the double winning season in 70-71 the club failed to win many major honours until George Graham became manager. Unlike Wenger's team however they were noted for their defensive and negative style of play, soon rival fans would chant 'Boring Boring Arsenal'. They Graham team did however produce won of the most stunning results in English football history.

On the final game of the season they required a 0-2 win at Liverpool, who were coincidentally top of the league. They managed to score the second goal with minutes left, the scorer being Michael Thomas. They left their Highbury stadium in 2006, the increased capacity of the Emirates stadium has allowed the club to produce match day revenues of three million and to complete with the commercial success of Man Utd.

Few people would have predicted during the George Graham era that Arsenal would become the most attractive and enjoyable side to watch in English football. Arsene Wenger has managed time and time again to find and develop foreign footballers on the cheap.
