Manchester United F.C.

The club was formed after Newton Heath went bankrupt. The club of Newton Heath was founded in 1878, but the Man Utd club was formed in 1092. Some of their standout run of results include a fourteen league wins in a row in 1904-05, and ten in a row under Ron Atkinson in 85-86. Sadly there was a dispute over television rights during the start of 1985 so there isn't much video coverage of the ten game run of results.

The most poignant date in the clubs history is Feb the 6th 1958 when a return flight from Belgrade crashed while refueling at Munich. Twenty three of the passengers died, including a large proportion of the 'Busby Babes'. This included Duncan Edwards, tipped to become one of the greatest players of all time. The manager Matt Busby was touch and go. He survived and went on to build another great side including George Best and Dennis Law.

They won the European Cup in 1968. After Busby stopped managing the club had few successes until Alex Ferguson became manager. Even his start was bleak, and at one point relied on a goal from Mark Robins in an away tie at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup to keep his job.

After this he went on to win the Premier League on numerous occasions, the Cup Winners Cup against Barcelona and finally the European Cup against Bayern Munich, in a thriller with two late goals to win 2-1. Famously George Best walked out of the game just before United scored both of the goals.

During 2010, a battle between fans and the owners of the club, the glazers, has led to many fans protecting over the clubs level of debt. Which is in the region of seven hundred million. A constorium of 'Red Knights' is attempting to wrestle control away from the glazers, but whether this will prove successful, only time will tell.
